Oh how we love our pets! When my daughter was small we went through a range from chickens, mice, guinea pigs, a cat and lastly, a dog. Quite some thought was put into that last one. I insisted that she couldn't have a dog unless she was able to take responsibility for it. At one stage we looked at a silky terrier pup which was absolutely gorgeous, but she decided that she didn't think she was old enough to look after it. It was a couple of years later that we went to look at some maltese puppies. It was time! We chose the cutest little puppy and once it was old enough, we had the joy of taking her home. She was my shadow, without a doubt, and stayed with me once my daughter married. She provided absolute unconditional love and was the best companion. I guess we all have somewhat similar pet stories. They become family members and we grieve when they cross the rainbow bridge. We miss them dreadfully but they are forever in our hearts!
