My mother had a 'life long' friend - they became friends as young girls, a close friendship which lasted through to their end days. They were there for each other in all of life's ups and downs including illness, deaths of their spouses, marriage break-ups within family, as well as the numerous joyous celebrations - births, weddings, anniversaries and the everyday 'high points'. They truly experienced what it meant to 'grow old along with me'. Mum's best friend passed a few years ahead of her and Mum missed her dreadfully. Mum passed aged 95. It was a precious life long friendship!
